CULTURAL EXPERTISE IN EUROPE: WHAT IS IT USEFUL FOR? – EURO-EXPERT
Addressing this question is crucial today for going beyond formal justice and providing legal and para-legal professionals with concrete instruments for substantive justice in multicultural and diverse societies.
To this aim Cultural Expertise in Europe: What is it useful for? – EURO-EXPERT, ERC funded Project (2016-2021), develops an integrated concept of Cultural Expertise within a new historiographical framework that investigates the development and impact of Cultural Expertise over time and space.
EURO-EXPERT empirically investigates the use and impact of Cultural Expertise in: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In-context data are collected through ethnographic fieldwork conducted by a modular team trained to mixed methods.
The outputs of EURO-EXPERT include: academic publications; CULTEXP – the first multilingual and cross-jurisdictional database on Cultural Expertise; data visualisation of in-court and out-of-court Cultural Expertise; a course outline on Cultural Expertise; a toolkit for the use of Cultural Expertise; publications for the general public.
EURO-EXPERT is based at CHAD – Centre of History and Anthropology of Law, University of Paris Nanterre and is led by Livia Holden. The activities of EURO-EXPERT are disseminated on a Twitter account, on a Mailing list, and on the project’s Website.
